| Philmont 2003Memorable and exciting experiences await us at Philmont. We will be hiking and exploring the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Have a safe and enjoyable trip trekkers. Make sure the trekkers spend time to prepare for it. Take advantage of every and all training opportunities, and remember to do your self training. The training trek for this Saturday will start at 9:00 AM at the Coon Rapids dam park. This is the same park we have the bike ride to and then eat hot dogs. The trek will go west along the Hennepin trails park corridor for the Elm Creek trail system. It is the same route we ride. We will hike to Osseo Senior High football stadium and then do the bleachers. This is about the only way we can get any "terrain training" in. After that we will finish the hike at the Lions park in Osseo. We are in need of some parent volunteers to BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs when we get to the park. Your packs should be full Philmont packs minus food. DO NOT exceed 25% of your body weight. DO NOT use weight that cannot be distributed across your body. Boots are also required. This training exercise for 1 day is designed to accomplish a tremendous amount. 1) Check to see that your pack will hold together over a distance, and that it is big enough to hold the required gear. 2) Check to see that your boots are broken in and your feet will survive. 3) Increase the distance to see that your individual training endurance plans are working. 4) Get us some "terrain training". 5) Work together as a crew to accomplish a goal. |
